2 Kings 13:10-14:29 Power

by fol CHURCH on October 21, 2020

There is a lot that goes on in these passages. It is important to take note of names and families as you study those who did right in God’s eyes and those who didn’t. Also, you get to see God’s consistent kindness and grace, side by side with His judgement.

I want to focus on the telling of Elisha before and even after his death in 2 Kings 13:14-21. In the midst of everything that has been happening in the world recently, God has been reminding me of His faithfulness, truth and power. When you read about Elisha you see these parts of God shine.

In the Garden of Eden, the first time we experience warfare that leads us to sin is when Eve talked to the snake. You see how she allowed lies to be spoken to her, which removed her from the truth she was created for. Her ears were never to receive the deceit that Satan brought that day. Her eyes were created to take in God’s beauty and not to see shame. Her mouth was to taste and see that the Lord is good and not her fleshly desires.

From there she lost the power that comes from living in pure covenant with God.

In our little snippet in these verses you read about such wisdom Elisha has from his close relationship with the Lord. You know he spoke from knowing God and hearing Him. There was such power that came from that, that dead people found life again. Even after Elisha’s physical body was dead.

How much in these times is God asking for us to remember the power that comes from living in close purity with Him. Remembering God’s faithfulness, living in the Hope of that, never losing Faith.

God can’t sin, which means that God can’t lie. So, listen to Him and run with that above all else. The fact that someone came to life after touching a dead man’s bones shows that it was always God that held the power and never Elisha.

Thank you, God, that we can always live in your love, hope and truth as we choose to be in covenant with you. From there, we pray that we see power in following you through signs, wonders and miracles. In these hard days, may your light shine above all else. Allowing us to dwell in your strength and joy. Amen.
