Luke 24 Heaven Breaks In

by on April 30, 2024

The torture of the cross was over. Jesus had died and been placed in a tomb under guard (See Matthew 27:62). He was dead. The people had all gone back to the places where they were staying and so ended the most amazing ministry in human history. I guess we all know what it’s like to lose someone we care about but this was different. Jesus had been different. He had been more and meant more to so many people that it’s hard to imagine the impact of His death. It must have felt so horribly final.

But then as you read through Luke 24 you see that heaven was beginning to break into life on earth in new, unexpected and more powerful ways. Angels appeared and speak to some, Jesus appeared to people as nobody had ever appeared before. Something had changed. The chasm of separation, caused by sin, between heaven and earth had somehow been bridged and the 2 realms had become connected again. Jesus was able to come and go as He pleased. He could step into a room and speak with people, He could minister to them again, man and God had been reunited!

Think about the implications for us. If Jesus can step into a room at any given moment He can be alongside any of us at any point in time. If his angels can appear and speak to people they can do that for us too. When we read this in conjunction with Acts 2 we see that the Holy Spirit also has the power to move among us when we ask Him to. Heaven can break into life for any one of us at any time. We can walk with God as Adam and Eve did before the fall (Genesis 3:10) and know His presence with us. All we need to do is place ourselves into His hands and ask Him.
