Psalm 13:1-6 God Does Not Play Hide and Seek

by fol CHURCH on July 07, 2019

Oh my goodness: the outpouring and depth of despair and abandonment in the first few lines of this psalm. When reading the psalms, I love how the writer opens his heart totally to the Lord. It speaks of human thoughts and emotions which we can encounter every day, which is why the psalms are still so relevant to us now.

Do you ever have days when you may be sweetness and light to those around you in the work place or when you are out, and yet when you get home you unleash the frustrations of the day on your loved ones – or is that just me!? But this is the honesty of feelings that we can have with our heavenly Dad: he knows it all so we might as well be honest with how we feel, be it anger, hurt or rejection. It feels good to offload, and then when our heart feels released and lighter, we can enjoy rejoicing in the Lord. Remember that he knows us better than we know ourselves and he loves us more than we can comprehend. Thank you, Lord, that we are so totally loved by you.

The lyrics of “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury say:

There's no shadow you won't light up

Mountain you won't climb up

Coming after me.

There's no wall you won't kick down

Lie you won't tear down

Coming after me.

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.

Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine.

And I couldn't earn it, I don't deserve it, still, you give yourself away.

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.

I find these lyrics so reassuring that I am so totally and unconditionally loved by the Lord and it is a reminder how we are all incredibly special and unique in our God’s eyes. When all around us seems desperate and we don’t know how we can bear it, remember that God gives us the strength, we mustn’t take our eyes off him. We need to live in the power of his spirit and be confident that God rules.

When you feel sad or depressed, remember Psalm 13. Tell God that you feel sad. Ask God for help. Then tell God that you believe that he will answer you. Remember that the love of God never fails.
