Written in approximately 830 BC, the prophet Joel shares a vision of ruin, a call to repentance and the glorious promise of restoration about the coming day of the Lord.  Judah had wandered away from God and although Joel warns of the punishment of the Lord, he encourages us with God’s promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Joel 1 and 2).  2 Chronicles 7:14 calls us to repent and the promise is the Lord will heal our nation,

‘if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land’

God’s promises of healing, the outpouring of His Holy Spirit and that the righteous will flourish can only encourage us but we need to remember that our relationship with Him matters both when things are going well and when they are not going so well.

For contemplation: Do you pray regularly, even daily, for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon this land and on your life? If this happened what difference do you think it may make to you personally and to our country? What can you use from this prophecy to witness to non-believers?
