When the huge fish spat Jonah out onto the shore he recognized that he was being given a second chance.  His repentance had resulted in his reconciliation to God so when the call was issued again  “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you” (Jonah 3:2), Jonah jumped to it. He recognized that God wanted him to be a part of His plan of reconciling His enemies to Himself.

“Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown”

Eight simple words that would literally turn Nineveh upside down and throw its people into action.

God does not ask us to be theologians able to dazzle the world with our knowledge of Him. He simply asks us to ‘go’ with our simple faith and speak words of love to reconcile the lost to Him When called to serve God Jeremiah the prophet said “ I do not know how to speak, I am too young” the Lord responded “Do not say, “I am too young” You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you.”…”I have put my words in your mouth”. (Jeremiah 1: 6-9)

Do need not worry about speaking of God’s love even if you feel inadequate. The disciples were simple uneducated fisherman yet God used them powerfully to bring revival across the globe and many miracles signs and wonders followed them as they went about preaching the Good News.

Eight simple words brought about a grassroots revolution in Assyria that spread upwards in society until it reached the King’s ears.  The people believed God’s Word as spoken by Jonah and they repented. Fasting, sackcloth and prayer are the outward visible signs of a repentant people.  The Assyrians who worshipped a plethora of gods believed in Jonah’s God and set out to please Him with their repentance in the hopes of saving themselves and the city from God’s wrath.  God saw this and He withheld judgment against them and spared Nineveh and its people.

We are the grass roots people of God.  Revival starts with each of us.

Prayer, Thank you Lord that you have reconciled me to Yourself. Please help me hear and obey your call.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19,20)
