1 John 1 Light, Life and Love

by on November 18, 2024

In 1 John 1, the Apostle John shares key truths about Jesus and our relationship with God. He begins by emphasizing the reality of Jesus. John says, "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched" (1 John 1:1). This shows us that Jesus is not just a story; He is real, and His life is central to our faith.

John tells us that God is light, and in Him, there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). This means God is pure, holy, and good. If we claim to know God but live in darkness (sin), we are not being honest with ourselves (1 John 1:6). Walking in the light means being truthful about our lives and our mistakes. It’s important to acknowledge our flaws and seek to live in a way that pleases God.

One of the most comforting parts of this chapter is 1 John 1:9, where John writes, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." God promises to forgive us when we admit our wrongdoings. This shows His love and desire for a close relationship with us.

John also explains that he writes these things so that our joy may be complete (1 John 1:4). A true relationship with God brings us deep joy and peace. When we walk in the light and stay connected to Jesus, we can experience this joy fully.
