In this chapter Peter talks about various aspects of living a Christian life. How wives should be beautiful from the inside by a gentle spirit rather than the external adornments of jewellery and fine clothes, true beauty comes from within. Husbands would be respectful and considerate to their wives and that everyone who believes in Jesus should live a peaceful life together, being loving and compassionate and not being tempted by evil. Some people do seem to suffer even when doing good, but they need to remain strong in their faith knowing that God is with them. Can we apply these principles to life now? If we practise the teachings of Jesus, then it will positively impact those around us even if we do not notice it at the time. It is often easier to lead by example with actions speaking louder than words which can inspire and positively influence others around us.

We are encouraged to have mutual respect and understanding because in God's eyes we are all equal and so we should honour and care for one another as He does us. This also applies to our communities where we should support each other with respect and kindness and uplift one another. Don't be tempted to repay insult with insult, instead bless each other and break the cycle of negativity and help to build a more compassionate world. Our words can be powerful tools but should only be used to speak truth and positivity rather than evil and causing harm. We need to actively choose the path of righteousness and make peace a priority in our lives. Righteousness will bring its own rewards even if we must endure suffering. Standing up with courage and conviction can be daunting but you will be blessed by God. If you live your life with honesty and honour then if others criticise you, you can never be accused of doing anything wrong in the eyes of the Lord. It can be challenging to stand up for good, but it is way more honourable than when you suffer for doing something wrong.
