“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
These two verses, from Paul’s second letter to the new church in Corinth, were intended to reaffirm to the new Christian’s there, that God supplied not just what they needed, but an excess or abundance for their needs. Paul wasn’t just talking about earthly needs, such as food or as he refers to the seed and grain harvested and stored. There is also an implication here, by the reference to enlarging the harvest of their righteousness, that he is talking about spiritual needs and gifts. In doing so, they are called to be generous with all their material resources, love, time and talents and thereby bring thanksgiving or glory to God.
This passage serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness between generosity, trust in God’s provision and spiritual growth. We can’t expect to grow in our faith if we just keep everything to ourselves.
Have you ever experienced the joy that comes from giving to others without any hesitation or reservation? When we give generously and cheerfully, we not only make a positive impact on the lives of those around us but also open ourselves up to receiving blessings in unexpected ways. This verse serves as a reminder that our acts of generosity are not in vain, and that God sees and appreciates our willingness to give. So, let us continue to give joyfully and abundantly, knowing that we are participating in God’s work of spreading love and kindness in the world.

Application:
Have you ever experienced the blessing received when you perform a random act of kindness? If you have, spend some time soaking in God’s pleasure for having done so. If you haven’t, I urge you to try it. The old adage that says ‘you get much more than you give’ is so true. Our God is so faithful and true.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for your abundance of all things for us. Help us to go out and use our time, resources and talents to benefit others and thereby glorify Your name. Amen.
