Acts 17 You ‘Don’t’ Got This, Girl!

by on May 27, 2024

Let me repeat that, you don’t got this! Ok, so that makes no grammatical sense, I understand and maybe you’re not as used to saying ‘you got this girl’ as I am! But let me put a little flesh on my slightly meandering line of thought! In doing so you’ll see something you both know already, but will have some theological back up to go with that, and something rather freeing that comes from the realisation that you don’t got it… someone else does!

Here, in Acts 17, we find Paul and his companions, a cornucopia of preachers, a missionary dream team if you will! The trouble is that not everyone liked what they were saying. In Thessalonica they are said to have caused turmoil through sharing the story of Jesus! They were chased out of one town, they were heard in another, they met complete strangers who knew nothing of the Jesus way or Jewish culture and those who were Jewish, but dispersed throughout the Mediterranean. There were hold ups, hang ups and misunderstandings, but there were also followers and questioners and fruit, good fruit. But this good fruit sits alongside all the baggage, all the fear, all the failure, and yet there is fruit.

Paul and his team do not stop, they shake off a failure and move on in search of the fruit, because they know their job. They share the gospel, they don’t change hearts. God’s got that!

Questions:

Has my fear held me back from sharing the Jesus story? What does trusting God with the outcome of sharing His truth look like in my life?

Prayer:

Lord God, help us to do the things You ask us to do trusting that we can step back and let You do Your part. Amen.
