'Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.’ (Colossians 3:2-3).
However hard we find the present times in which we live, as believers what comfort this little phrase must bring we ‘are hidden with Christ’. I once used the illustration of taking a cloth and wrapping my bible in it. Imagine the bible was me and the cloth was Jesus, I was completely hidden and safe with Jesus wrapped all round me.
We can take comfort in this today, completely wrapped around by Jesus, safe and secure. Hidden means concealed and safe it’s not only a future hope but an accomplished fact now.
In verse 2 ‘For you have died’ means we should have as little desire for this world as a dead person would. We are in the world but not of it. The Christian’s real home is where Christ lives. This truth should give us a different perspective on our lives on earth. So, to ‘set our minds on things above’ means to look at life from God’s perspective and to seek what God desires.
Those who fix their eyes on heaven will not be distracted by the things of earth. When we take on God’s view of some of the things we hold so dear, we see how little they are worth, we shouldn’t become attached to what is only temporary. Each one of us who has trusted Jesus Christ, to be Saviour and Lord, in these uncertain times don’t have to worry or fear, why? Because we can take heart and stand on this scripture, we are hidden in Christ, let this be a revelation to your spirit this morning.
Our service and conduct don’t earn us our salvation, but they are a result of our salvation. Take heart today that your salvation is sure and certain, so we can live each day for Jesus
