Asking my children to clean their rooms does not inspire the outpouring of love that I potentially thought might be coming my way when I first became a father. Okay maybe that’s stretching it a bit, but needless to say asking my kids to do the ‘good works’ required of them around the house is often more effort than doing the job myself!
God says that he has created us to do good works, but surely, he can do them himself? I mean he created the world and all who reside within it and yet are we to do the heavy lifting and shifting here in 2025? Well yes!
Firstly, we do the things that God has placed in front of us inspired by the love that God has for each of us. My children are far more motivated by love than fear… most of the time!
Secondly, the value that comes from being trusted is greater than the gift of a job lifted from us.
And finally, (at least for this reflection!), you really are needed! Your story of God’s kindness in your life that has led you to repentance, (check out Romans 2:4 if you don’t believe me) will be the good works that call others to the love and joy you have found in Jesus!
You have been called, saved and put to work by ‘his great love.’ There is no other way for God to work in this world as love inspires, love values and love this love is worth sharing!
