“For you are all sons and daughters of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”
We are all children. As an adult of course, I am a father to my own children, but I am still a child of my own parents, who have now both gone to glory. As a child, I was very much dependent upon my parents, certainly in my earliest of years. But now as an adult, one of the things I have to think about is how I ‘pass on’ things to my children.
Inheritance is a strange thing: The only way to get it is by someone dying!
When we first came to Spain, one of the first things we did we organise our funeral plans and our Spanish wills. It sounds a bit morbid, but it is good financial planning, taking care of things to relieve some of the burden on loved ones that are left behind.
Paul declares to the Galatian Christians something incredibly profound. His ‘declaration’ implies that our inheritance is something worth far more than property or earthly riches, but we can only receive it if Jesus dies. The mystery of the gospel of grace, is that if I believe (have faith) in who Jesus was, and what he accomplished by dying on the cross, I can become a child of almighty God! How on earth is that possible? ………….. and yet, with God, all things are possible.
Furthermore, as a child of God, I am also a brother / sister of Jesus Christ Himself – What an incredible inheritance!

Application:
If I want to become a child of God, there is only one way that I can do so. I cannot earn the position, but I can be granted it through faith in Jesus Christ. Faith is the key that unlocks my heavenly inheritance. Spend some time reflecting on exactly who you really are in Christ Jesus.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father. I am overwhelmed with humility that you would allow me to become a child of yours. Help me to more fully recognise and appreciate exactly what that means, and Holy Spirit, help me each day to live out this reality. Amen.
