Habakkuk 3:19

by on February 28, 2025

19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.

I don’t know how you feel about this but I have to confess that there have been many, many times in my life when I haven’t felt like this verse applies to me. In fact, I’ve probably felt the opposite. I’ve felt weak, tired out and emotionally drained. I’ve felt like my feet were made of lead instead of feeling like a deer. And, there have been times where getting out of bed in the morning has been a bit of trial never mind ‘treading on the heights.’

But I have to say that I would rather live my life with a verse like this ringing through my mind than keep plodding along the way so often do. I want to let God be my strength because if I can let go of enough of my struggles and difficulties and let the God who created the universe have His way I know I’ll be better off. I want Him to my feet like the feet of a deer because deer don’t trip and stumble the way I do. They’re sure-footed and stable and not prone to slips and trips like I am. And, I really want Him to show me how to tread on the heights because there you get a clear view of everything. You see the whole landscape laid out before you. You can see the beginning and the end and that has to be a better way to live than just being able to see what’s in front of you.

I’m a work in progress with this though. I have a lot to surrender to God and a way to go to find His way. How are you doing with it?

Application:

Ask yourself what you find it hardest to give up to God. What do you worry about most of all? IS it your finances, your health, the presentation you have to give at work or the friendships that you struggle with? Now close your eyes and imagine that are of your life in your hands. Hold it out in front of you and offer it to Jesus asking Him if he will take it and give you something better in its place.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank you that we can come to You with all our troubles and concerns. Help us to see that You are the one who has made a way for us where there is now way. Help us to put our complete trust in You and bless us to do better in life. Amen.
