Isaiah 33:6 A Timeless Truth

by on May 27, 2025

6” He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.”

I have a neighbour who is currently engaged in a major building project on his house. It involves quite a lot of engineering because the house is quite old and doesn’t have the kind of solid foundations that we would expect with modern building standards. What’s made it more complicated is that the house is made from clay lump blocks (unfired clay bocks) that are protected from the elements by a lime render. As a building material clay lump has much to commend it but it doesn’t have the structural integrity of a modern building block. In construction stability is critical. You need good foundations to support the superstructure. If they shift or crack the whole building can come crashing down.

What I love about this verse is it its timelessness. Notice the wording, “He will be the sure foundation for your times”. It doesn’t matter whether you were reading this in Isaiah’s time or in ours we’re told that God will be the sure foundation for life in all times. The important thing is that we know and understand this basic fact. Whatever we’re doing, whatever we’re facing or whatever we’re in need of God knows what the answer is.

He has all the wisdom we ever need, all the salvation we need, all the love, grace and mercy we’ll ever need. He is a foundation that will never shift or crack. He will always be sure and true.

Application:

Have a look at your diary for this week and next. Consider all the things you have to do, think about what’s involved in each of the tasks they represent. Think about the things that you’ll need to know to get through them all. Ask yourself, “what’s missing, what do I lack?” Perhaps there are some difficult situations you’re facing or some decisions you need to make that worry you. Remind yourself that God sees the end from the beginning of all things so He already knows what you need. All you need to do is ask and you will receive.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You that You know all things and that all things are before You. I hold before You these things (……..fill in the blank for yourself…….) and ask that You would bless me with the things I need in order to find my way through each of them. Grant me wisdom, peace and clarity as I move forwards from this point. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
