We have an old saying that goes, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch.” It’s thought to have originated in America where it was common practice for some bars to offer a “Free Lunch” to drinkers in order to encourage them to drink more. The food was free but the drink most definitely wasn’t!
In life there is little, if anything, that’s truly free. We always end up paying for things somehow. The free offers we see in the media or the supermarkets aren’t truly free, they have to cover their cost somehow otherwise the party offering the gift would soon be out of business. In God’s Kingdom the opposite is true. His economy is abundant and without cost. He has no limitations and there are no constraints on His resources. Because there are no restrictions He has no need for profit. It’s so counter cultural for us to absorb the concept that we so often go looking for the catch. But there isn’t one. The God who made the universe out of nothing but His love has no need for profit or return. His love never has a ticket price on it because if it did it would cease to be true love. Instead it would become a business deal that nobody would want.
God’s love is free. His forgiveness is free. His blessings are free. His grace and mercy are free. His provision is free. He makes no charge for salvation. He asks no price for His wisdom or knowledge. His kindness is given without cost. He heals and restores for nothing. He releases the oppressed freely. His only request is that you make His Son Jesus your friend. And, Jesus will be your friend for free too!!
