This is a powerful chapter which talks about the mighty creature Leviathan. It’s a reminder of the omnipotence and omnipresence of God. It’s also a reflection of the power and might that God has placed in nature. This chapter draws our attention to the reality of God’s sovereignty and the fact that nothing is beyond His control. Leviathan, the creature described in Job 41 is a symbol of chaos and disorder. (See Isaiah 27:1 and Ezekiel 29)
So, who or what are we talking about? A creature? Pharaoh? Egypt?
No, the above three symbolize a world leader and a world empire. We are talking about a world and its leaders who influence us and whose actions impact upon our lives. Sound familiar? In real life, we often face situations that make us feel powerless and overwhelmed. It could be the impact of the current economic and political situation on our finances/daily lives, it could be the sudden loss of a loved one, health issues, or relationship problems. We may feel like we are drowning in our circumstances, just as Job describes his feelings in this chapter. However, like Job, we can draw comfort from the knowledge that God is sovereign and in control.
