As followers of Jesus, we are called to embody the virtues of servanthood, humility and loving obedience in our lives reflecting Jesus’ character and advancing his mission on earth.
Jesus the Son of God stoops down to wash the feet of His disciples, modelling a powerful lesson in servanthood, humility, and loving obedience.
Servanthood lies at the heart of Jesus’s message. Despite His divine status, He took on the form of a servant, demonstrating that true greatness is found in serving others. In our mission to further the Kingdom of God and lead non-believers to Christ, we must adopt the posture of a servant, seeking to meet the needs of others and humbly serving them in love.
Humility is another vital component in effective discipleship. Jesus, the King of Kings, humbled Himself to the point of washing his disciples’ feet, teaching us that humility precedes exaltation. As we humble ourselves before God and others, we create opportunities for genuine connection and witness, demonstrating Christ’s love in tangible ways.
Loving obedience is the natural outflow of a heart surrendered to Christ. Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us, and obedience to this command is evidence of our discipleship. By lovingly obeying Christ’s teachings and example, we not only honour Him but also draw others to Him through our witness.
