John 16 The ‘Inner’ Power

by on April 17, 2024

“But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away.  Unless I go away, the Counsellor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.’ (v.7)

Jesus describes the hostility of the disciple’s own culture to His message.  Whatever our world, we will not really ‘fit in’ as long as we are openly committed to Christ. This warning is not intended to frighten us, but to prepare us.  Jesus could only physically be in one place on earth at any one time, but now the Holy Spirit is present in all places, in and available to every believer.  The ministry of the Holy Spirit to the world is one of conviction, but to every believer it is one of guidance and revelation of truth.

The Holy Spirit’s inner ministry is to help us grasp the reality of Christ’s words and then experience that reality through obedience.  The Holy Spirit guides us as we strive to apply Jesus’ teachings to our own experience. Because of who Jesus is, we can confidently approach the Father, sure of our welcome because Christ champions us before God’s throne.

Questions:

How significant is the Holy Spirit of God in your life? Do you truly believe that if we ‘ask in Jesus’ name, the Father will give us whatever we ask?

Pray:

Holy Spirit, fill me afresh so that I may walk today with an overwhelming awareness of your presence in my life, guiding me and empowering me to live a holy life, to the glory of God. Amen.
