Mathew 28 The End was Really the Beginning

by on April 23, 2024

The resurrection of Jesus must surely be one of the most important facets of Christian faith. For me it’s right up there with His conception by the power of the Holy Spirit, and His birth to a virgin, His mother Mary and His ultimate sacrifice for all of us!  What a Saviour!

Today’s passage recounts the way His resurrection was discovered and covered up. The large bribe paid to the guards removed the opportunity for them to testify to what they had seen and heard spoken by the angel. I can only imagine what a difference it would’ve made had they substantiated the claim of the two women who went to the tomb. But God wants us to believe through faith, a free will choice we make in our hearts.

Our God is a living God and calls us to Himself through Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit. We all have a part to play in this life and if we are willing to persevere in that work we will be rewarded in heaven. Remember the parable of the talents? (Matthew 25:14-30). Effectively Jesus taught us that the more we are willing to put in the more we will get out. Now that isn’t necessarily monetary gain and I rather like to think that it has far more to do with spiritual gain.  Ultimately God wants us to choose to work for Him, in the way we behave, in the way we think and in the way we speak.

Jesus’ great commission at the end of today’s passage should excite us. It was the end of Mathews gospel for sure, but certainly the beginning for all of mankind to live and share the love of Christ however and wherever we can.

Action:

Is there something you could say or do that would encourage one person or many people to ask you about your faith?  You could then share your testimony. Just be you and be real, God will do the rest!

Prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus would you help me to be your voice, your hands and your face in the world. Give me the courage and determination to play my part in your plan to save this amazing creation we call Earth and all that lives here. In your mercy and love we pray. Amen.
