There is a huge difference between knowing something and understanding it. For example I know that when I turn the key in the ignition of my car the engine starts, I can put it in gear and move the vehicle forward (or backwards). I know how to make that happen but I don’t understand all the mechanics of what’s happening as I do it. I believe it will work because I’ve seen it happen before but I don’t know how it all works.
On the Mount of Transfiguration it seems that Peter and the others saw Moses and Elijah but couldn’t comprehend what was happening. Incidentally it informed the disciples that he was truly God and man and it prepared Jesus for the death he was about to meet. When they came down from the mountain they met a man who knew Jesus could heal his son but he had no concept of how faith worked. (By the way – I love that man’s honesty it’s so refreshing, ‘I know this is real but I don’t know how it works, please help me’ (see also Mark 9:24)). And then, while there’s a relationship between heaven and earth the two work in very different ways so what do we do about taxes Peter?
We need to ask ourselves if it’s important to understand everything or is it enough to know that something is going to work? Faith isn’t about understanding the mechanics of a thing it’s about knowing enough that we’re prepared to trust that God is in it.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight,” Paul proclaims (2 Corinthians 5:7). Jesus said to Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe” (John 20:29).
Have you seen enough yet?

Question:
How much have you seen in your walk with Jesus and have you seen enough to trust Him? You don’t have to understand the miraculous to know it happens but how far will you trust God?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus increase our faith in You. Bless us with enough to walk in faith trusting You in all things. Bless us with the ability to walk the narrow path just as You taught Your first disciples to do. Amen.
