Matthew 7 Kingdom Lifestyle, Seeking, Building and Loving in Christ

by on January 29, 2024

Mathew 7 is a chapter that is profoundly relevant to our journey as believers. In v.7-8 Jesus assures us, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (ESV).  This promise, echoed in Jeremiah 29:13, underscores the intimacy of our relationship with God inviting us to seek him wholeheartedly and experience the richness of His presence.

In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus shares the parable of the wise and foolish builders, illustrating the importance of not only hearing His words but also putting them into practice – see James 1:22, which says “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Both passages underscore the transformative power of applying God’s teachings to our lives.

The caution against judging in Matthew 7:1-5 serves as a poignant reminder that our journey of faith is marked by grace and forgiveness.  As we walk this path, let us extend the same measure of grace to others that we ourselves have received.

Questions:

Matthew 7:24-25 - How can we practically ensure that our daily decisions and actions are grounded in the unchanging truths of Scripture and build our lives on the Rock?

Matthew 7:1-5, - cautions against judging others. How can we cultivate a spirit of humility and grace in our interactions, acknowledging our own shortcomings while encouraging others in their journey of faith?

How can we deepen our commitment to seeking God through prayer and diligent study of His Word, aligning our desires with His will, as encouraged in Matthew 7:7-8?

Prayer:

Dear Father, I pray you grant me the strength to seek you diligently, build my life upon the solid foundation of Your Word, and embrace a spirit of humility and love in my interactions with others.  May my life reflect the transformative power of Your Grace.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.
